The cisterna chyli is a dilated sac at the lower end of the thoracic ductinto which the intestinal trunkand two lumbar lymphatic trunksflow. It occurs inconsistently and when present is located posteriorto the aortaon the anterioraspect of the bodies of the first and second lumbar vertebrae.
