Betadine
Betadine is the name of a consumer-available antisepticused to treat minor cutson humans and animals. Povidone-iodine is also used to prepare the skin prior to surgery, as it is a strong broad-spectrum topical microbicide.
It is a povidone-iodinesolution, used as a broad spectrum topical microbicide. Most over-the-countersolutions are 10% povidone-iodine. Povidone-iodine leaves a yellow film on the skin, which is a barrier for bacteria. The film is non-irritating.
