Early intervention for children with autism spectrum disorders can help the child communicate much better with peers and make daily life much easier. An example of early intervention is teaching the child appropriate answers that go with normal questions. These children learn by "rote" learning, or memorization, rather than abstract ideas. After they have learned conversation through rote learning, they are able to move forward from there, and use it appropriately like Nerotypical (NT) children.

Early intervention helps a child's confidence. If you teach a hyperlexic child, for example, that if someone says, "what is your name," You say "My name is (insert child's name)" then they are more confident when they are faced with this frequently asked question, because they have been taught a "rote" answer and don't panic, turn away, or avoid eye contact because they simply don't know what to say back. Many autism spectrum children have "echolalia" which is when they just repeat back to you, what you just said to them. They do this because they know they are supposed to respond, but don't know what to say. With early intervention, a child is more able to socialize and not be afraid of not understanding people, because they have been given the tools to interact properly with their peers, rather than just giving up and going to the corner of the room druing a birthday party, and reading a book.
