Argyll Robertson pupils are small, unequal, irregularly shaped pupilsthat constrict with accommodationbut do not react normally to light. This means that while the eyes can focus on objects both near and far, the direct and consensual response to light are reduced or absent. These are usually, but not always caused by central nervous systemcomplications of syphilis.
