Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating (CFGHE) is a dietplanning tool produced by Health Canadaof the Government of Canada. It advises consumption from four food groups: Grain products, vegetables and fruit, milk products, and meat and alternatives. Any foods not accurately described by these food groups are termed "other", and are advised to be consumed in moderation. CFGHE advises the following levels of consumption per food group:
- Grain products: 5-12 servingsper day
- Vegetables and fruit: 5-10 servings per day
- Milk products: 2-4 servings per day
- Youth or Pregnant and breast-feeding women: 3-4 servings per day
- Children age four to nine: 2-3 servings per day)
- Meat and Alternatives: 2-3 servings per day
Depending on one's age and activity level they can aim to consume a number of servings per food group that is high or low in the range provided. For example, male teenagers could aim for higher numbers whereas elderly individuals could choose a number of servings that are lower in the range.
The food guide is complimented by Canada's Physical Activity Guide to Healthy Active Living.
