Pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) (or gestational hypertension) is defined as the development of new arterial hypertensionin a pregnantwoman after 20 weeks gestation.
Treatment
It does not normally require treatment, but is monitored closely to rapidly identify pre-eclampsiaand its life-threatening complications (HELLP syndromeand eclampsia). Treatment options are limited, as many antihypertensivesmay negatively affect the fetus; methyldopaand labetololare most commonly used for severe pregnancy hypertension.
