PROM (medical)

The acronym PROM is a medical term loosely used for all of the following: preterm, prelabor, or prolonged rupture of membranes(ROM). Prelabor ROM refers to cases where the amnioticmembranes of a pregnant mother rupture before labor contractionsbegin. PPROM or pPROM refers to preterm, prelabor ROM, where membranes rupture before the 38th week of gestationas well as occurring before contractions begin.
