British Pharmacopoeia
The British Pharmacopoeia is the authoritative collection of standards for UKmedicinalsubstances. Produced under the auspices of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agencyit is an essential reference point for everyone involved in research, development and manufacture of formulated (medicinal) preparations and veterinarysubstances. The British Pharmacopoeia standard references and is referenced by the European Directorate on the Quality of Medicines[1].
It is often adopted by countries all around the world that do not publish their own standards, for example, Australia[2], and Korea[3].
There are equivalents in many other countries, such as the United States [4]and Japan [5], and the World Health Organisationmaintains the "International Pharmacopoeia" [6].
The British National Formularycontains information on prescribing, indications, side effects and costs of all medication drugs available on the National Health Service.
