Acidophile

An acidophile is an inorganic particle or living organism (or part thereof) that tends toward acidic conditions or acids.

The adjective form of acidophile, acidophilic is a technical term used by histologiststo describe a particular staining pattern of cells and tissues when using haematoxylinand eosinstains.

Acidophilic organisms are those that thrive under highly acidic conditions. These organisms include:

  • Acidobacterium, a division of the Bacteria
  • Acidithiobacillales, an order of Proteobacteria
