In human anatomy, the Artery of Adamkiewicz, also Adamkiewicz artery, major anterior segmental medullary artery and great anterior segmental medullary artery, is the largest anterior segmental medullary artery.

It arises from a posterior intercostal artery, which branches from the abdominal aorta, and supplies the lower two thirds of the spinal cordvia the anterior spinal artery.[{{fullurl:Template:FULLPAGENAME}}#endnote_Takase]

Disorders

When damaged or obstructed, it can result in anterior spinal artery syndrome,[{{fullurl:Template:FULLPAGENAME}}#endnote_Wan] with loss of urinaryand fecal continenceand impaired motor function of the legs; sensory function is often preserved to a degree.
