Artery of Adamkiewicz

In human anatomy, the Artery of Adamkiewicz, also Adamkiewicz artery, major anterior segmental medullary artery and great anterior segmental medullary artery, is the largest anterior segmental medullary artery.

It arises from a posterior intercostal artery, which branches from the abdominal aorta, and supplies the lower two thirds of the spinal cordvia the anterior spinal artery.^{[{{fullurl:Template:FULLPAGENAME}}#endnote_Takase]}

Disorders

When damaged or obstructed, it can result in anterior spinal artery syndrome,^{[{{fullurl:Template:FULLPAGENAME}}#endnote_Wan]} with loss of urinaryand fecal continenceand impaired motor function of the legs; sensory function is often preserved to a degree.
