Glucuronide

A glucuronide, also known as glucuronoside, is any substance produced by linking glucuronic acidto another substance via a glycosidic bond. The glucuronides belong to the glycosides.

Toxic substances can be removed from the body in this manner - glucuronic acid forms a glycosidic bond with the toxic substance, and the resulting glucuronide, which has a much higher water solubilitythan the toxin alone, is eventually excreted. See glucuronidationfor the details.
